West Texas A&M’s Servell Dandridge, the Lone Star Conference discus champion, placed third in the discus Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships, being held in Charlotte, N.C., at the Irwin Belk Track Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.
Friday, teammate Eldon Grimslid finished eighth in the men’s decathlon to attain all-American status.
Dandridge, a native of DeSoto, Texas, recorded an effort of 52.36 meters (171-09 feet), placing behind second-place finisher James Coleman of Missouri Southern (52.54m) and winner Derrick Vickers of Findlay (52.77m). Dandridge’s effort was a personal best, topping his 56.83 meter effort at the LSC Championships.
One day after his accomplishments in the decathlon, Holmen, Wis., native, Eldon Grimslid, competed in the javelin throw, placing ninth with an effort of 59.47 meters (195-01 feet).
